The rich cultural heritage of UAE

The United Arab Emirates (UAE) is a country with a rich cultural heritage. There are several aspects of its culture that make it unique and fascinating including traditional clothing, food, music, and more. Let's explore some of these in more detail.

Starting off with the traditional Clothing, one of the most recognizable aspects of UAE culture is its traditional clothing.

Men typically wear a long white robe called a Kandoora, while women wear a black Abaya. The headscarf worn by women is called a shayla. These garments provide protection from the hot sun and sandstorms while also reflecting cultural and religious beliefs.

Food comes second in line,  UAE cuisine is influenced by its location at the crossroads of the Middle East, Asia, and Africa.

Traditional dishes include machboos (a spiced rice dish with meat), harees (a type of oats with meat), and luqaimat (a sweet dumpling) and much more.

Dates are also a staple in the UAE, often served with coffee as a sign of hospitality.

Third, there are several traditional jobs in the UAE, which some are still common up to this day.
Back then they were both a source of income and a hobby.

  1. Pearl diving: This was once a major source of income for people in the UAE. Pearl divers would dive deep into the Arabian Gulf to search for pearls. Today, pearl diving is not as popular as it used to be.

  2. Falconry: Falconry is a popular Emirati tradition and a significant part of the culture. It is the practice of hunting with trained falcons, and it remains a popular pastime in the UAE.

  3. Date farming: Dates are a significant part of Emirati cuisine, and they are also a popular export. Many locals still engage in date farming as a way to earn a living.

  4. Camel racing: Camel racing is a traditional sport in the UAE. Camels are considered a valuable asset and are often bred and trained for racing.

  5. Dhow building: The UAE is known for its traditional wooden boats called dhows. The art of dhow building has been passed down through generations, and many locals still practice this craft.
